Class Dinner
That's right Andrew, T.G.I.Friday's @ 7pm tomorrow Concord Mills. I'm not sure how many people are going to show up. I know for sure at least 10, probably more. I spoke w/ Kamisha and she has to work so she won't make it. I emailed and called people today to remind them. I'm leaving my house at about 6 so I should be there around 6:30. I made the reservations under Radiography class. Bye!!

Update on Custom Markers
I didn't take into account the Veteran's Day holiday when I mentioned the shipping. (Oops!).
They won't be here by Monday, but I will have them before class on Friday.
Thanks! Also, don't forget to bring your new books for the book drive! I will have the collection boxes, fliers & labels done for Monday.

Custom Markers?
I don't know about you guys...but these tape markers are starting to annoy me! Interestingly enough, I found a guy online that makes custom markers for only $8.00 a pair (bulk rate) and free shipping. These markers have adhesive putty on the back...much more convenient than tape. I'll be ordering some, so let me know if you're interested and we can get a bulk order together.
The pic above is what they look like...and remember, ours will basically have the "F" numbers on them.
If you have a question about anything, just let me know.
There are many sites online that offer custom markers...but the ones I came across charged almost as much for shipping as they did for the markers.

A Site for RAD students
A neat little site to commiserate, chat, and network with other RAD students. The forum is a great place to ask questions, compare notes...and have a laugh about common experiences.
Free, but requires registration to post in forums, etc.

Sticky Tape Generates X-rays?
This was such a strange story, I just had to post a link.
Supposedly, some scientists figured this out & actually used said sticky tape rays to produce an image of one of their fingers. No word on what they used to MacGyver up a gonad shield

Motorbike ride through Chernobyl
The speaker we had today mentioned a site created by a woman who had less restricted access to Chernobyl than himself. Not sure this is the lady he's referring to...
http://www.kiddofspeed.com/
Her site is pretty interesting (especially the sketchy grasp she has of exposure levels!)
but there is some controversy regarding the veracity of her claims. (You know how the internet is.) Some claim she didn't take the pics but merely scanned them from a magazine. Others claim she never rode a motorbike through the region, but rather rode in a car with her husband or visited as part of a tourist trip.
Either way these sobering and sad pictures are the aftermath of Chernobyl.

Totally Sweet Site For Film Critique
I stumbled upon this one while doing the homework for RAD 111. This link features x-rays of the shoulder but the "Main Menu" link at the top of the page will give you more options. Technically it doesn't give a chance to critique the films, but it does give you more practice at viewing x-rays of various positions and what not.

I'm packing a lunch
I don't think we're doing lunch on Monday. I'm pretty sure Lynn said she wanted to practice in the lab between tests. I'm not sure about anybody else. Plus, the break isn't too long between classes. So I'm brown bagging it.
Monday Plans?
Hey guys, are we still going to brunch after the test in 111 on Monday? Just curious...if yes I won't bother packing a lunch.
Later!

Having Trouble Retaining All the Info From Class?
If you've never taken a learning style quiz, here is the link:
http://ww2.nscc.edu/gerth_d/AAA0000000/barsch_inventory.htm
This is the Barsch Learning Style Inventory, which helps you determine if you are a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner.
This test totally changed my life. There were always a couple of subjects that I struggled with, no matter how hard I studied. After awhile you just want to give up in frustration.
Then one semester, a teacher made the whole class take this test. It changed the way I studied and made even the most difficult subjects easier to learn.
The important part comes after the test. There are learning tips listed for each style and you can find more tips through Google. Either way, it helps you focus your study time in a more efficient and productive manner.
Good luck on Monday's test guys!

Hey Guys--Need More Practice?
Some of us are staying after class on Thursday and Friday to practice the positions for the upcoming Finger to Forearm test. If you're interested I believe there's a sign up sheet going around somewhere. Just a reminder...those of us who have lab on Monday will be taking this test ON MONDAY! Yipes.

A Plethora of Learning Games
I came across this neat site for Anatomy. This maybe helpful as we get more involved with the x-ray part of things. It's been awhile since I've taken Anatomy, so anything that helps jar that info to the front of the brain is a good thing.
First there's the link to interactive crossword puzzles (they help you spell the words properly...hint hint): http://anatomy.med.umich.edu/crosswords/crossword_index.html
Then there's the main page with "Who Wants to be a Millionaire Doctor" application and the "Anatomy Jeopardy" games: http://anatomy.med.umich.edu/games/games_index.html
These are apparently geared towards medical (MD) students, so some of the stuff is irrelevant, but hey, if you can answer "doctor" questions, RAD tests should be a breeze...right?
Later, y'all!
Got to go study for the RAD 110 exam...my head is already spinning!

Word Jumble - Rad 110
Is anybody else having trouble with the word jumble? I HATE word jumbles! I can't get the last 2 on the left side. I hope you all did great on the test today and enjoy the long weekend.

The Best Anatomy Site EVER!
This site helped me through two grueling Anatomy classes. Not only can you save images from the image bank for flash cards, you can also take the self-tests on the site for FREE.

This link is specifically for the skeleton, but there are medical suffix and prefix tests and many other helpful extras.

A Great Site for Nutrition Info
From the author of the book series:"Eat This, Not That"; this helpful comparison tool will help you make better choices while eating out. While the comparison of menu items and restaurants is limited, it does make you think twice about some of your favorite meals.
Sometimes the more healthful choice isn't all that obvious. This is a great guide for busy students, who can't avoid an occasional stop at the drive thru.
